Make Your Own Perfum
Paris and Grasse France, Indianapolis, Chicago, Atlanta and now, Tipp City. These are the cities that have one thing in common—each is the location of Studio des Parfums, a professional perfumery creation system developed by Parfumerie Galimard in France that recently crossed the Atlantic Ocean to begin spreading out across the United States. Unique to anything ever seen in this area, Studio des Parfums is a business that allows clients to create their own perfumes and fragrances, for both men and women, as well as to purchase one-of-a-kind selections created in France.
Owners Ellen Linkmeyer and Yvonne Lemming are located at 104 W. Main Street, across the street from Sugden Furniture in the downtown Historic District. Linkmeyer said she and Lemmings discovered a Studio des Parfums while shopping in Indianapolis, where the first location outside of France was located. “We just fell in love with the concept,” she said. “It’s just a neat experience.”
Galimard is the second largest perfume maker in the world, specializing in high-end products. Backed by this expertise and the ability to create more than 100,000 different fragrances, Linkmeyer said clients of the studio have a chance to make something never before seen-- or smelled and to even name it themselves. “There are 127 scents to pick and choose from. This can lead to 100,000 different combinations,” she said.
The process is as follows: An interested client first makes an appointment with the business, then goes over a short presentation before sampling a number of different fragrances in order to create their own perfume or cologne. After a fragrance is made, the ingredients is kept on file and can be made into lotions, soaps and other items for the body. Linkmeyer said once you’ve tried this process, it is something that sticks with you. “Once you get into this, it’s like the world disappears. You get into it and time just goes away,” she said. Lemming said there is a lot more to perfume creation than most people imagine and that it is not just something for women. “We welcome women, men and children eight years and older,” she said.
Linkmeyer said the studio will also offer a chance to provide unique gifts for mothers, grandmothers, fathers, sons and children. “When a man is shopping for perfume he may not know what his wife is after,” she said. “With this, it makes the man top on her list.” Lemming said she encourages groups, such as cheerleaders or other school groups to create their own lines of perfume in order to sell for various causes and charities.
Other groups, such as wedding parties and prom companions, also can come in and create their own scents to make their experiences much more special.
Lemming and Linkmeyer are trained blending artists that have been trained in France by Perfume Masters. They will guide and teach clients their age-old secrets and formulas for creating harmonious scents.
“Once you’ve learned the basics, you will follow your imagination to create your own perfume,” they said. “Your scent is personalized in a bottle reflecting the name you have chosen and your unique formula is classified and preserved should you wish to re-order in the future.” Packages run from $85 to $200.
