As American As Apple Martinis
The art of martini mixing is as American as apple pie. In fact, there’s probably such a thing as Apple Pie Martinis. For those who enjoy the Cosmopolitan way of life, a new, hip atmosphere awaits visitors to Sidney. At W Refined American Cuisine, or W for short, if a patron can think of a martini they’d like to try, Executive Chef and General Manager David Weigandt can make it. “We offer 15 different martinis, but I’m versed in about 100 different kinds,” Weigandt said. Already building a strong following, W serves up Chocolate Covered Cherry Martinis, Sour Apple Martinis and originals such as the Crème Brulee Martini made from vanilla vodka, butterscotch schnapps and crème. Patrons will also find the famous Margatini, Rusty Nail and Rob Roy, among many others. W first opened in Sidney in August 2005 at the Days Inn as a fine-dining restaurant. Although a diverse menu still exists for lunch and dinner patrons, a new bar and huge list of drinks now makes W a place to sit back and enjoy. “I look for people to have a good time and try new things,” Weigandt said of the business. The location also offers a unique list of wines, chosen not for their name, but for taste. “There’s no wine from a grocery store here,” Weigandt said. “I chose what I think tastes good, not a name.” The restaurant/lounge’s menu includes a variety of unique appetizers, salads, deli sandwiches, burgers and desserts all priced below $10 and made as fresh as possible. “Everything we can possibly make is made in-house from sauces, salad dressings and side items,” Weigandt said. “We make everything.” W is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner served from 5-9:30 p.m. Patrons can enjoy $1 off martinis each day from 5-7:30 p.m. with 50 cents off all other drinks. Although dinner is only served until 9:30, the party continues each weekend until 1 a.m. In the near future, Weigandt said W will conduct martini tastings, which allow patrons to try several types of martinis for one price. To get to W, take Interstate 75 Exit 92 in Sidney. The restaurant is located just a quarter-mile off the highway at the Days Inn.
