Annual WACO Homecoming Fly-In The WACO Historical Society will hold its Annual WACO Homecoming Fly-In August at Historic WACO Field, located at 1865 S. County Rd. 25A, South of Troy. This year’s WACO homecoming scheduled for the last full weekend in August is sure to be a memorable experience for all who attend and enjoy the WACOS and other vintage airplanes expected for the Fly–In from all parts of the United States. This year’s theme,”Preserving the Past....Inspiring the Future!” will be showcased at the educational, family orientated nostalgic aviation event.
WACO pilots will be available to provide rides in their beautiful open cockpit biplanes August 25 through August 26 .Interested persons should register with the WACO ride scheduler when they arrive at Historic WACO Field to select their ride times.
If you prefer to view Fly-In activities from the ground, bring your lawn chair and enjoy the air show slated for Saturday afternoon, August 26 and then browse the field to see some of the new additions to this year’s WACO Fly-In event.
Visit the WACO Museum’s Aviation Learning Center tent, where hands on activities for young people of all ages will be featured including paper airplanes, rockets, helicopters and much more. The Aviation Learning Center program, now a decade old, provides educational outreach programs focused on science, mathematics, history and citizenship benchmarks and summer camp opportunities to interested young people of the surrounding area.
View rare photographs from the WACO Museum’s Jim Kessler Photo Collection featuring aviation images from the Golden Age of Aviation on display for all to enjoy as well as museum artifacts and museum displays. Meet and greet area non-profits, hosted in a new “Community Tent” along with local authors who will be available with books for signing and sale at various times through out the day.
Troy, Ohio, once the manufacturing home of the Weaver Aircraft Co., shortened to WACO, produced 78 models of aircraft from 1920 -1946, including private, commercial and military aircraft. WACO was the largest producer of aircraft in the world. between 1928-1933 and was the first company to build production airplanes featuring the legendary Curtis OX5 V-8 engine. The two most popular WACO models were the Model 10 with over 1100 sold and the UPF-7 model with about 600 sold. The WACO CTO Taperwing was sold in 1929/30 and was famous for winning countless air races, The 1930 Ford Reliability Tour, The Cleveland Air Races and The Paris International Air Show. Admission to the WACO Fly-In is $5.00 per person; free parking, with food and beverage vendors available on the field and handicap permit parking available. The WACO Historical Society Inc, founded in 1978, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and operates Historic WACO Field, an authentic grass airstrip , located at 1865 S. County Rd. 25A, located 2 miles North of I-75 exit #69,South of Troy, Ohio.
